Long Term Care – A Growing Need

Long Term Care – A Growing Need

Long-Term Care: There are more Americans aged 65 and older right now than at any other time in US history.

An estimated 10,000 Americans turn 65 each day, a number that will remain steady for the next 20 years while the 65+ population soars from 40 million in 2010 to 72 million in 2030. In 2010, older Americans made up 13% of the entire population. In 2030, the segment will rise to 19.3%.

Compare this extraordinary growth to the 20 years prior and following. Between 1990 and 2010, older Americans only grew from 12.6% to 13% of the total population, and between 2030 and 2050, the group will grow from 19.3% to 20.2% of the population. Both of these time-frames show older Americans as a percent of total population grow by less than 1 point, while the current 2010 to 2030 time will see an astounding 6.3 point jump.

What all of this means is that there’s a real demand for qualified workers in the long term care industry, and it’s only going to intensify for the next 20 years.
